GETTING STARTED

This section will give you a complete guide from the process of recording your music and preparing your mix project for delivery to us for mixing & mastering.

Times have changed and you can now record from the comfort of your home using any powerful digital audio workstation such as Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools, Digital Performer and Logic. If you don't have your act together before a recording session, you will be paying by the hour at expensive recording studios that will normally charge by the hour.

Not any more. You can now take the time to record and arrange your music from the comfort of your home. When you are done recording, get that superior professional sound by sending it to us for professional mixing and mastering.

ATTENTION HIP HOP PRODUCERS:

This only applies to hip hop producers. From our observation, many of you like to record vocals to a single stereo beat track.

In many cases, the beat was not mixed properly. This unfortunate nature in the mix will prevent us from giving your music substantial punch in the mastering process. When this situation occurs, it will add to dissapointing mixing and mastering results.

We recommend for you to provide and include the full mix session of the beat such as the kick, synth bass, snare, claps, hi hats and etc. This will give us full control and flexibility to your mix. If you are working with someone who create beats, make sure that he also provides you the full mix session of the beat being used. In this case, kick, synth bass, snare, claps, hi hats etc.

RECORDING

We suggest that you use the best microphones built specifically for professional studio recording. If you don't own one, you can rent them at an affordable rate. It will significantly make a big difference in capturing vocals and instruments as appose to using cheap microphones.

While recording, make sure to monitor all signals so that they do not peak or distort. Make sure to pay attention to any red blinking lights. If you see the red lights blinking, then you know there is distortion. Distortion cannot be fixed in the mixing and mastering process. It can only be fixed through re-recording.

ARRANGEMENT

Try to make your mixes simple. We've had some cases where we had over 30 tracks for mixing. This is very unnecassary unless we are mixing up a full orchestra. Most music recordings should only be around 16 to 24 tracks at the most. Please remember that more does not mean better. Otherwise, your mix will sound too crowded and the instruments will be battling each other to be heard. This is not a good thing.

DRY VS EFFECTS

We prefer to receive all your audio tracks dry (no effects). If you are sending your project to us for mixing and mastering, we suggest that you remove all effects and EQ. If there is a particular effect that you really like to include, you may go ahead and print the effect in the audio. However, we highly recommend that you send all tracks dry (no effects).

DELIVERING YOUR FILES

We are compatible with both Pro Tools & OMF 2 format supported by (Cubase, Sonar, Logic, Digital Performer & Nuendo) including the popular 'REASON' by Propellerhead. There are 3 options of delivering your files to us. You may choose to upload the requested files or mail us a CD-R or DVD copy.

 OPTION 1

If you are delivering your project in Pro Tools 7.1 or below, we will need 2 elements pertaining to your Pro Tools mix.

1. Pro Tools Session File

2. Audiofiles Folder

OPTION 2

Supported by the following:

If you are using any of the following Digital Audio Workstations (Sonar, Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer & Nuendo), you may export or save your entire mix in a single OMF file. This single OMF file is all we will need from you. This file will contain all your embedded audio including its detailed clip positioning.

Important Note :

When exporting or saving your mix to OMF, you will be given the option of either exporting to OMF or OMF 2. Choose OMF 2 . This will make it compatible with the latest DAWs. Please note that OMF will only recognize audio and will NOT recognize any of your existing plug-ins and midi.

OPTION 3

SOLO / BOUNCE AUDIO

The 3rd option of delivering your project is to solo each individual track / instruments and export/bounce them to Wave 16 bit or 24 bit. When you do this, make sure that all audio tracks begin at the very beginning measure of the song. This will make it easy for us to import your audio tracks without having to figure out where and when the audio track begins in the song. Finally, we will just need the tempo/bpm info to each of your songs.

REASON USERS ONLY

If you are using the popular REASON by Propellerhead in any of your song projects, there is no need to export/bounce the audio for each instrument within REASON. You will only need to send us the REASON session or application file. This is a very small file and in most cases, you may upload it or send it via email.
